Bandeirantes were the leaders of the Bandeira movement. The bandeiras were expeditions by Paulistas (people from Sao Paulo)as well as allied Indians to find precious metals and stones. They also looked for new Indian slaves and runaway slaves. The bandeirantes left from São Paulo dos Campos de Piratininga (now Sao Paulo) following the rivers.
