The stattion's main purpose was to transporte coffee from the countryside to Sao Paulo. It was situated by Estacao da Luz to ficilitate the coffee storing.

In 1940 the station was renamed Julio Prestes after the governor of the State of Sao Paulo.

Eventually the railway days were over in Sao Paulo and the station was abandoned. In the 90s, Sao Paulo's governor decide to restore the station. It became Sala Sao Paulo; a huge music hall.
