Gamla Rådhuset, the Óld Town Hall, is a very distinctive building in Lidköbing. The building is located in the middle of a square, which actually becomes a kind of crossroads, and in addition to the height of the building, it is also the location that makes the building impressive.

According to history, part of the building was originally a Hunting Lodge in a forest. At the end of the 16th century, the building was moved via the lake to Lidköbing where it was converted into a Town Hall.

There were several changes to the building after it was moved. The building got a new ground floor, an entrance staircase to the second floor, a balcony on the third floor and a tower with a clock. At the top is the Goddess of Justice, Justitia. The roof of the Town Hall consists of about 25,000 oak shingles cut by hand.

The entire building is a wooden building which is believed to have originally been Swedish red. At one point, however, it was painted in a gray-yellow color, but in 1972 it was again given its original red color.

On 11 February 1960, a large part of the Old Town Hall burned and the upper floors were completely destroyed. However, the buildings were rebuilt and on 12 December 1961 the Old Town Hall could be rededicated.

Over time, the Old Town Hall has had several different functions. Town hall, Police Station, Fire Station, Telephone exchange and Museum. The Old Town Hall now functions as a Tourist Office and Cafe. On the first floor there are Conference Rooms.

The Swedish city of Lidköping is located in Västergötland län at the southeast end of Vänern. Vänern is Sweden's largest lake and the third largest lake in Europe. There are 22,000 islands in the lake.
In 2023, there were 23317 inhabitants in the city, 11694 men and 11622 women. (visit link)

The city is visited by many tourists every year, partly because of the old market town environment, the city's location by Väneren and the Rörstrand factory and the Rörstrand Museum. Rörstrand is one of Sweden's few active porcelain factories. Rörstrand is also called -"the crown jewel of Swedish porcelain".

The city's location by Lake Väneren and nature with mountains and forests invite you to many activities such as hiking, cycling, skiing, water sports and more.
So Lindköping is also a good place to live for people who like to be outdoors.
