About Ivan Mládek
Ivan Mládek (visit link) (born 7 February 1942) is a Czech songwriter, composer, and comedian. His father, a lawyer and painter, taught him to paint, but he preferred music and started his now-famous Banjo Band. The Banjo Band first performed in 1966. In 1968 Mládek emigrated to France to pursue his music career in Paris. He soon returned to Czechoslovakia and became famous as a musician in the second half of the 1970s; he has written over 400 songs as of 2007. He became known as a comedian in the 1980s.

A lot of his songs contain references to places in the Czech Republic. In this song Mládek singing about Karlovy Vary.

The city of Karlovy Vary, also known as Carlsbad in English, is located in the western part of the Czech Republic. It was founded in the 14th century by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor , who established the city after the accidental discovery of thermal springs by his hunting party. The town's name, "Karlovy Vary," translates to "Charles' Bath" in honor of its founder.

Despite natural disasters that occurred during that time, only a few buildings have survived from the 14th century. Most of the architectural landmarks in Karlovy Vary date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it forms a part of the "Czech Spa Triangle" along with the other Czech spa towns of Mariánské Lázne and Františkovy Lázne. These three Czech towns were collectively inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "The Great Spas of Europe" in 2001. The group includes a total of 11 sites across seven European countries: Austria (Baden bei Wien), Belgium (Spa), Czechia (Karlovy Vary, Františkovy Lázne, and Mariánské Lázne), France (Vichy), Germany (Bad Ems, Baden-Baden, and Bad Kissingen), Italy (Montecatini Terme), and the United Kingdom (City of Bath).

Karlovy Vary boasts a unique distinction: it has the highest concentration of healing hot springs in the world. These springs contain most of the elements from the periodic table, with over 40 essential elements for the human body routinely analyzed. The mineral water of Karlovy Vary originates from depths of approximately 2,500 meters below the Earth's surface.

U Karlových Var stojí pivovar, děláme tam jedenáctku černou, jednu bych si dal, já mám v srdci žal, má milá mi nebyla mi věrnou.U Karlových Var stojí pivovar, kamarádům pro smích asi budu, nenechám to být, já chci čistý štít, počíhám si jednou na ně v sudu.
