"Point Venus owes its name to the observatory that Cook built in 1770 to track the trajectory of the planet Venus. This point was the landing place for many explorers like Bougainville and Wallis.

The lighthouse also bears the names of Te-ara-o-Tahiti or Tepaina-venuti. It was then equipped with a fixed white light, visible at 2 15 miles.

During World War II, it was camouflaged by locals who painted it with coconut palms with their palms and nuts to deprive the Japanese enemy's landing fleet of any landmarks.

It is an eight-storey square tower, built of rubble and coral with a height of 25 meters. It was raised 9 meters in 1963.

The lighthouse is also used today for air navigation thanks to additional lenses for aerial beams."
