The Abbey was founded from the Abbey of Gethsemani, Trappist, KY in the spring of 1951. The monk's lives are composed of communial and private prayer, sacred readings, study, manual labor, service to the brethren and hospitality. The Abbey church is open to the public, please see website for daily liturgical service schedule. The Abbey provides three different retreat houses that can be used for individual or group retreats. They are Bethlehem, Bethany and Nazareth. The Abbey has been making Monks' Bread for over 50 years. It can be ordered on line through their website or found in stores in the surrounding area. The monks bake about 35,000 loaves a week. They also bake to donate. Around 1,000 loaves are given to soup kitchens in Rochester each week.
