"Nueve fortificaciones construidas durante el periodo bélico permanecen en el litoral onubense Seis están situadas en Mazagón (Picacho y avenida Conquistadores) y tres en Doñana.
Están incluidos en el Inventario del Plan de Arquitectura Defensiva de Andalucía (PADA) y forman parte del Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz. Son los búnkeres de Mazagón y Doñana. El programa Descubre tus fortalezas, que propone descubrir los sistemas defensivos de la provincia de Huelva, a través de visitas culturales gratuitas guiadas por arquitectos, historiadores y arqueólogos, incluye las casamatas de la localidad costera.
Los búnkeres han estado en peligro de desaparición, pero el trabajo y el tesón de José Antonio Mayo lo ha impedido, y ahora se han convertido en un espacio abierto al disfrute de los ciudadanos, como referente histórico de cuanto ocurrió en el litoral onubense durante la segunda contienda mundial.
El proceso para recuperar y evitar la destrucción de estas fortificaciones ha sido una tarea larga. En abril de 2011 ,se solicitó a Cultura información sobre el expediente. Finalmente los esfuerzos de Mayo comenzaron a dar fruto y en junio de 2012, los búnkeres habían sido incluidos en el inventario del PADA.
Después de cuatro años empleados para su recuperación, las fortificaciones de Mazagón y Doñana siguen en pie, están en el inventario PADA y el expediente remitido a la Dirección de Bienes Culturales de la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta Andalucía, ya que pasaron a ser integrantes del Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz.
TÉCNICA CONSTRUCTIVA
Estructura formada de doble ladrillo macizo de 25 x 40 cm, rellena de hormigón armado, cimentado sobre base de arena dunar.
CARACTERÍSTICAS
Estructura monolítica en forma de trébol con todas sus aristas redondeadas para repeler el impacto de las balas. Se accede a través de 5 escalones de 70 x 45 cm y una puerta de 070 x 1,90 m.
Tiene dos habitáculos. El primero es el de descanso y munición, es rectangular y tiene ocho nichos para guardar la munición; y el segundo es la cámara de combate y vigilancia, con tres aspilleras que miran hacia la playa. Se accede a él a través de dos escalones de 30 x 50 cm."

"Nine fortifications built during the war period remain on the Huelva coast. Six are located in Mazagón (Picacho and Conquistadores avenue) and three in Doñana.
They are included in the Inventory of the Andalusian Defensive Architecture Plan (PADA) and are part of the Andalusian Historical Heritage. They are the Mazagón and Doñana bunkers. The Discover your strengths program, which proposes to discover the defensive systems of the province of Huelva, through free cultural visits guided by architects, historians and archaeologists, includes the casemates of the coastal town.
The bunkers have been in danger of disappearing, but the work and tenacity of José Antonio Mayo has prevented it, and now they have become a space open to the enjoyment of citizens, as a historical reference of everything that happened on the Huelva coast during the second world war.

After four years spent for their recovery, the fortifications of Mazagón and Doñana are still standing, they are in the PADA inventory and the file was sent to the Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Ministry of Culture of the Andalusian Government, since they became members of the Andalusian Historical Heritage.
CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE
Structure made of double solid brick measuring 25 x 40 cm, filled with reinforced concrete, founded on a base of dune sand.
CHARACTERISTICS
Monolithic clover-shaped structure with all its edges rounded to repel the impact of bullets. It is accessed through 5 steps of 70 x 45 cm and a door of 070 x 1.90 m.
It has two rooms. The first is the rest and ammunition compartment, it is rectangular and has eight niches to store ammunition; and the second is the combat and surveillance chamber, with three loopholes that look towards the beach. It is accessed through two 30 x 50 cm steps."
