This section of road was rerouted in 1968, as the single lane for each direction of travel tunnels were no longer adequate for the traffic. The road has been closed to cars, but is now used for walking and bicycling.

Parking is available about a mile and a half from here off of Route 30 at N 39° 59.995 W 078° 13.685

The abandonded section is 13 miles long and includes two tunnels. The road and the tunnel walls are filled with colorful art an includes this Kilroy mark. As the rivot counter was inside the tunnel, go to the coordinates and count 250 steps into the darkness. Kilroy is low on the left side.

If you wish to travel the entire length, bring snacks, water, and a flashlight. There are no amenities.
