Roughly in the middle of the Czech Republic there is an area with a very promising name - Bohemian Paradise. The area is relatively small (less than 200 km2), but it is extremely rugged - part of the area is made up of sandstone rocks, part is forested, but there are also places very popular with cyclists. The area was declared a protected landscape area in 1955. The numerous occurrences of variously large sandstone cliffs are currently attracting climbing enthusiasts.

The easy working of the sandstone stone gave rise in the Middle Ages to the construction of castles, both classical (e.g. Kost Castle, Sychrov (visit link) , Trosky (visit link) , Staré hrady) and special castles, the so-called rock castles (visit link) .

One of the best preserved, most important and last medieval castles in the Czech Republic is Kost Castle.
Kost Castle impresses with its size, massiveness, but mainly with its location. Castles are usually located on a hill or a rock. Kost, on the other hand, is hidden in a place where three valleys converge (visit link) . The castle can be easily overlooked during a normal tour of the surrounding terrain, the castle is only revealed to the observer when approaching within a few tens of metres.

A popular legend says that the castle was named Kost because it was never conquered, as it is as hard as a bone. The castle was besieged several times, suffered considerable damage, but was eventually defended.
