EN: "This path, one of the three main pedestrian accesses to the Alhambra, has an approximate length of 860 m and an unevenness of about 80 m. It connects the lower part of the Albaicín neighborhood with the monumental enclosure, through the ravine that separates the Alhambra from the Generalife. The official name of the Cuesta has its origin in a historical story that recalls the flight of the Palace of Boabdil, nicknamed the 'Little King', who went by this route to the Albaicín to lead the rebellion that was brewing against his own father, the Sultan Muley Hacén. In this way, he ended up ascending the throne as the last king of the Nasrid dynasty (1482-1483; 1487-1492).

Among the other names it has received, one of the most popular was that of Cuesta de los Molinos, because in the area near the nearby Darro River there were several branches of irrigation ditches and water mills. From the first half of the 19th century, the road became the usual route for funeral processions on their way to the new cemetery, a fact that led to the mournful designation of Cuesta de los Muertos (Slope of the Dead). Finally, since the end of the 19th century when its lower route was modified and the section was paved with pebbles from the river, "chinos", the name Cuesta de los Chinos has also become common.

The Cuesta is bounded to the northeast by the orchards of the Generalife, whose slopes are supported by hackberry trees (Celtis australis). To the southwest it is confined by the banks of the stream and its wooded area, which gives a glimpse of the walls and towers of the Alhambra."
