The Tauernbahn Museum in Schwarzach im Pongau is considered the first railway museum in the state of Salzburg. The building complex was completed in autumn 2002 and the design of the exhibitions was completed in May 2003, in time for the opening of the first museum season. The official opening took place in 2005 on the occasion of the anniversary "100 years of the Tauern Railway from Schwarzach-St.Veit to Bad Gastein". The internationally recognized architect Prof. Adolf Krischanitz, a native of Schwarzach, is responsible for the planning of the new museum building. The architecturally simple new building, whose contemporary design language is a little jewel in itself, is directly adjacent to the coach house, which was built around 1930 and renovated by the museum association.
