In 1918, the Luxor, the second cinema in Deventer, opened. The building was designed by J.D. Postma and B. Hoogstraten. Commissioned by Swier Miedema, head of what would grow into a well-known cinema family with theaters in the north and central Netherlands, including Meppel. Swier Miedema's sons, Johan and Jacob, joined the family business, which expanded considerably in 1927 under the name NV Algemeen Nederlandse Bioscoop Onderneming.

The building is located in a prominent place on the Brink, in the heart of Deventer. Perhaps the building looks more like Art Deco, but it does contain many elements that refer to the Amsterdam School. In particular the bay windows on the first floor and the, as it were, "sculpted" brickwork around them. The window layout with horizontal bars is also an Amsterdam School characteristic. The building is partially a municipal monument.

It is said that the interior, which was modified several times and finally demolished in 1985, was a design of Jaap Gidding, the same man responsible for the interior of the famous Tuschinski Theatre in Amsterdam.

The building was used as a cinema until 1983. After this, the Luxorplaza discotheque was located in the building for a long time. The building was then in danger of being demolished, but was saved from demolition by the city council - with only a one-vote majority.

In 2016, the building was purchased by local catering entrepreneur Ayhan Sahin to establish the Chicago Club. It opened in October 2021.
