Clifford Lee Burton (February 10, 1962 – September 27, 1986) was an American bassist in the heavy metal band Metallica from 1982 until his death in 1986.

Memorial plaque for Metallica bassist Clifford Lee Burton who died here on the spot in a bus accident when the band was on tour in Sweden. According to the busdriver, the band's tour bus ran over a patch of black ice, skidded off of the road, and flipped onto the grass. Burton was thrown through the window of the bus, which fell on top of him and killed him.

In 2003, Metallica's fan group in Sweden started a collection for a memorial stone for Clifford Lee Burton. It was completed in 2006 and has been visited by many fans ever since. Since it is located at a rest area, it is a stone that you immediately notice.
Text on the memorial plaque:

"IN LOVING MEMORY OF
CLIFFORD LEE BURTON
CANNOT THE KINGDOM
OF SALVATION
TAKE ME HOME
FEBRUARY 10 1962 SEPTEMBER 27 1986"

The text on the memorial plaque is part of the song "To Live Is to Die" which Metallica wrote as a tribute to their deceased band member.

At the memorial plaque there is also a cross and you can see that the memorial site is still visited a lot, probably especially by Metallica fans. There are a lot of plectrums, beer cans, key rings, badges and other things related to heavy rock at the site.
