A l'occasion du passage à l'an 2000, une sculpture monumentale nommée l'Eternité fut installée à Pontarlier.
Elle représente Adam et Eve portant le globe terrestre, lequel tourne sur lui-même chaque jour à midi. Le sablier qu'il contient est alors inversé, nous rappelant ainsi l'irrémédiable fuite du temps.

L'Eternité mesure 5.10 mètres de haut. Elle mêle la pierre, le bronze et le verre. C'est une oeuvre de Pierre Duc, qui a également réalisé la statue de Vauban à la citadelle de Besançon.

Eternity

To mark the year 2000, a monumental sculpture called Eternity was installed in Pontarlier.
It depicts Adam and Eve carrying the terrestrial globe, which turns on itself every day at noon. The hourglass it contains is then inverted, reminding us of the irremediable passage of time.

Eternity is 5.10 metres high. It combines stone, bronze and glass. It is the work of Pierre Duc, who also created the statue of Vauban at the Besançon citadel.
