On 1 October 1918, a railway disaster occurred at this location and 42 people lost their lives. However, the exact number of those killed is uncertain, as it was impossible to identify all the bodies due to fire in the train carriages. In addition to the many killed, there were also 41 injured.
The disaster happened on the Åby-Krokek train line at 18:59. A large landslide had occurred here, causing the train rails to hang freely floating in the air.
The locomotive F1200 with 8 wagons drove at 70 km per hour over the landslide. The locomotive, the first carriages and the rails fell down the slope and subsequently several of the carriages caught fire. Many of those killed burned to death.
