The cross stands in the southwest corner of the courtyard. It's a beautiful stone cross, well carved, about 2 m tall.
The church was built in 1610 by the Portuguese, who kept Diu as a territory for about five hundred years. The long European presence resulted in a solid Catholic community who keeps igreja de São Paulo as a gathering spot for the congregation.
