Bösjö monastery was probably founded for Benedictine nuns around the year 1100. The nuns received young girls for upbringing. To be admitted to the monastery, they had to bring large gifts with them. Therefore, only the very wealthy families sent their daughters to Bosjökloster, so that they could get a good upbringing.
The monastery, which was one of the richest, was a Benedictine monastery until the Reformation in 1536, when King Christian III confiscated the monastery. He assigned it to the former archbishop of Lund Torbern Bille, in exchange for taking care of the last nuns who were at the monastery.
In 1560, the monastery became private property and was changed to a manor house. In the 1870s, it was heavily rebuilt and given a late medieval feel, which was fashionable at the time. There have therefore been several owners over time and today the monastery is owned by Thord Bonde.
Today, the monastery is a much-visited tourist destination with art exhibitions, historical exhibitions, a very nice park with and cafe.
