Sjökvarteret is an exciting place and a vibrant maritime environment in Marienhamn. Here are workshops, several museums with a maritime theme, several art shops and a harbor with wooden boats of various types. It is always open and you can easily spend a few hours walking around here.
On the tour you can find both Waymarks and Geocaches if that interests you.

1. Salt N 60° 06.280 E 019° 56.701
Here you can park your car and you are already in the Sjökvarteret. Notice that all the buildings you see are built of wood and are all painted red or black. The red building at the parking lot is called Salt and here is the sale of handicrafts, not only from one artist but from many local artists. You can also buy local food here.
The small white lighthouse shows the way.

2. Båken N 60° 06.257 E 019° 56.737
The large triangular wooden building is a "båke" a kind of lighthouse, that is to say this is a copy of a båke that stood at Kobba Klintar outside Mariehamn. It stood there until the 1960s.
Rotary got the idea to build a copy here in the Sjökvarteret and with the help of many sponsors succeeded in completing the project in 2005.
You can go into the båke, where there are, among other things, informative boards

3. The Pier N 60° 06.309 E 019° 56.816
Now exit the long wooden pier where historic ships lie. Partly Galeasen Albanus and partly Sunnan II, which is a boat that was built in 1902 for ferry traffic. Albanus is a copy of a boat that was built in 1904 and is now used as a boat for young people.
Sunnan II is worth a trip with in the archipelago and there is also a restaurant on board.

4. The Local artists N 60° 06.397 E 019° 56.691
We will visit the local artists. On the route we pass a pub, a marine engine museum and a shipyard. Use the time to observe the sites. The shipyard builds the most beautiful wooden ships and you can observe the construction as it goes on. But now to the art houses. So here you can find just about anything exciting. There is, among other things, a silversmith and a multi-artist.

5. The Seafarers’ chapel N 60° 06.412 E 019° 56.798
At the far end of the stone pier, you will find the Seafarers’ chapel. Like the other buildings, it is also built of wood and consists of only 1 room. But a special room with the decorations and the beautiful wooden baptismal font.
The chapel is always open, but respect if there are church activities in progress.
On the way to the chapel, you might have noticed the boathouses and maybe you met some of the local sailors who would like to chat. If not, do so on your way back to your car.
