Memorial to the many Post Farmers who had to sail the post from Aland Islands to Sweden.
This took place both during the reign of the Swedish Empire and later the Russian Empire.

The memorial stone is located in a cairn. On the stone you can see a text, a post boat and a woman looking out over the sea.

From 1638 to 1910, Åland's farmers had to take part in post sailings. Each farm had to provide a man who had to carry the post. You didn't get a salary, but you didn't have to pay as much in taxes as others.

A sailing trip of around 40 km which took place in rowing boats or sailing boats. Depending on the weather conditions, stormy weather, maybe ice, the trip could last a few days and was not without risk. And it has happened that a boat has sunk and those on board have perished.
