"La iglesia de San Juan de la Cruz, antiguamente iglesia parroquial de San Andrés, sita en calle Poeta Querol n.º 6 de la ciudad de Valencia (España), fue una de las primeras que se fundó tras la conquista de Jaime I de Aragón, sobre una antigua mezquita. Su configuración actual data, sin embargo, de entre 1602 y 1615 y su primera piedra la puso el Patriarca y arzobispo de Valencia Juan de Ribera.
Es una iglesia de una sola nave con capillas entre los contrafuertes y cabecera poligonal. En su fachada los elementos decorativos se concentran especialmente en la puerta, mientras que el resto es un muro liso de ladrillo sobre zócalo de piedra rematado por una balaustrada con bolas.
A los lados se abrían dos pequeñas capillas uno de cuyos arcosolios es aún hoy visible. La portada es ya de finales del siglo xvii y destaca por el uso de columnas salomónicas y de ménsulas laterales sobre las que parecen deslizarse dos figuras femeninas. El edículo superior estaba presidido por una estatua de San Andrés de la que hoy sólo quedan las trazas de su cruz con su característica forma de aspa.
Lo más destacado es, no obstante, la decoración rococó de su interior, obras de Hipólito Rovira y de su discípulo Luis Domingo en la segunda mitad del siglo xviii. Realizada en estuco, pero trabajado con una calidad excepcional, las recargadas formas plenas de ángeles, telas y vegetación parecen trepar por las paredes.
Después de haber estado cerrada durante 50 años abrió sus puertas en 2009 permitiendo disfrutar de su increíble restauración. Dicha labor ha sido llevada a cabo por la fundación «La Luz de las Imágenes», junto con la restauración también de San Martín Obispo y San Antonio Abad y San Esteban Protomártir. Estas tres iglesias formaron parte del recorrido expositivo «La Gloria del Barroco» que finalizó en septiembre de 2010, convirtiéndose en una exposición única e irrepetible ya que juntó en sus iglesias obras de arte de diferentes localidades españolas, algunas incluso consideradas patrimonio nacional."

"The church of San Juan de la Cruz, formerly the parish church of San Andrés, located at Calle Poeta Querol No. 6 in the city of Valencia (Spain), was one of the first to be founded after the conquest of James I of Aragón, on an old mosque. Its current configuration dates, however, from between 1602 and 1615 and its first stone was laid by the Patriarch and Archbishop of Valencia Juan de Ribera.
It is a church with a single nave with chapels between the buttresses and a polygonal head. On its façade, the decorative elements are concentrated especially on the door, while the rest is a smooth brick wall on a stone plinth topped by a balustrade with balls.
On the sides were two small chapels, one of whose arcosolios is still visible today. The façade dates back to the end of the 17th century and stands out for the use of Solomonic columns and side corbels on which two female figures seem to slide. The upper aedicule was presided over by a statue of Saint Andrew of which today only the traces of his cross with its characteristic cross shape remain.
The most notable thing is, however, the Rococo decoration of its interior, works by Hipólito Rovira and his disciple Luis Domingo in the second half of the 18th century. Made of stucco, but worked with exceptional quality, the ornate shapes full of angels, fabrics and vegetation seem to climb the walls.
After having been closed for 50 years, it opened its doors in 2009, allowing you to enjoy its incredible restoration. This work has been carried out by the “La Luz de las Imagens” foundation, along with the restoration of San Martín Obispo and San Antonio Abad and San Esteban Protomártir. These three churches were part of the exhibition tour "The Glory of the Baroque" that ended in September 2010, becoming a unique and unrepeatable exhibition since it brought together works of art from different Spanish localities in its churches, some even considered national heritage."
