[EN] MEMORIAL TO EXECUTED PRISONERS OF WAR.
After Finland declared its independence from Russia in 1917, a civil war broke out in the country. In the winter of 1918 forces from both the Red and White sides arrived in Åland, where fighting ensued. The last battle took place in Godby on 19th February, ending with a victory for the White side. A few days after the battle the bodies of five executed members of the Red Guard were discovered under the ice In Färjsundet, and four more bodies were found in the surroundings. This stone was erected in 1968 by Åland workers in memory of the dead members of the Red Guard.

Suomen julistauduttua itsenäiseksi 1917 maassa puhkesi sisällissota. Sekä punaisia että valkoisia joukkoja hakeutui vuoden 1918 talvella Ahvenanmaalle, jossa käytiin taisteluja. Viimeinen taistelu Godbyssä helmi- kuun 19. päivänä päättyi valkoisten voittoon. Muutamaa päivää myöhemmin Färjsundin jään alta löytyi viiden murhatun punakaartilaisen ruumiit ja lähistöstä löytyi vielä neljä teloitettua punaista. Tämä muistokivi pystytettiin 1968 ahvenanmaalaisten työläisten toimesta kuolleiden punakaartilaisten muistoksi.
