A book for children and young people that tells the story of the war at Bomarsund.

"Far away in the Crimea, a war was going on between Turkey and Russia. Since Russia was then a huge empire that stretched from Vladivostok in the east to Åland in the west, the war came, and for a few weeks in August 1854, General Bodisco and a crow were in the middle of the calabash. Traces of the events can still be seen today in Bomarsund on Åland."

The Battle of Bomarsund, in August 1854, took place during the Crimean War, when an Anglo-French expeditionary force attacked a Russian fortress. It was the only major action of the war to take place at Bomarsund in the Baltic Sea.

Bomarsund is a fortress that the Russians started building in 1832.
The Russians started building the fortress after Aland and Finland had become part of Russia in the peace treaty of 1809. The peace treaty, which was signed by Sweden and Russia, was the end of the Finnish war of 1808-1809. And thereby Aland became the westernmost outpost of the Russian Empire.
