The railway bridge Järnvägsbron (literally railroad bridge) crosses the Götaälv and the Trollhätte channel. The crossing consists of two bridge parts: the western part is a traditional fixed bridge of 79.3m, the eastern bridge is 49.6m long and can be lifted. The short piece between the bridges (~ 60m) is built on the rocky foundation of the river island Hjulkvarnsholmen.

Because there are many tall ships using the channel the bridge was built as a vertical lifting bridge. The part lifted weighs about 530 tons, the maximum height lifted is 27m. The four concrete towers at the corners have a height of 40m and contain the cable mechanism and the counterweights for the bridge.

The bridge was pictured on the walkway to the southwest along the channel.

Reference: Järnvägsbron, Trollhättans stad (Swedish language).
