This door is one of the saddest I have ever seen.
I include it in the category, not because of its architectural style, but because of its content.
This door, called the Door of No Return, was the door through which the slaves, after being sold and suffering miserable situations, left their land to other continents and never returned. Men, women and children, more than 15 million in 300 years, at the expense of the English, Dutch and French.
The door, made of wood, is always open towards the sea after the dark corridor after the stairs.
The building was the mansion of the slaves, with their cells.
Today it is a museum to slavery which is part of a UNESCO heritage island.
