"Dakar railway station is a railway station located in Dakar in Senegal , on the Dakar-Niger station square renamed place du Tirailleur onAugust 23, 2004.

History
In colonial style, the first station was built in 1885 , after that of Saint-Louis (1883). Desired by Louis Faidherbe , the Dakar-Saint-Louis railway line, the first railway station in West Africa , was inaugurated on July 6, 1885.

The current station was built between 1913 and 1914 and put into service in June 1914.

The station was closed in 2009, when the Dakar-Niger railway line was closed for demolition .

It was briefly used in 2010 for the 3rd World Festival of Negro Arts .

In 2013, the new government canceled the cultural park project and announced the preservation of the station, as well as the next rehabilitation of the tracks to allow the small suburban train to resume its service .

The station was rehabilitated in 2018 and reopened in January 2019 for an inaugural journey of the Regional Express Train (TER) which connects Dakar to Blaise-Diagne International Airport via Diamniadio and resuming the route of the PTB. The renovations being completed, the station entered commercial service on December 28, 2021 like the rest of the TER railway line (1?? phase) going to Diamniadio.

Trolley
Besides the Petit Train de Commuter , only two main lines were in service. One, the Dakar-Niger railway , allowed travelers to reach Bamako ( Mali ) in 36 hours, once a week. The other, bound for Saint-Louis??, ? had long been out of use.

Aménagement de la place
The station is near the Gorée pier .

On the square, first named "place du Tirailleur", then "place des Tirailleurs africaines 4 ", a monument pays homage to Demba and Dupont , the Senegalese tirailleur and the French porpoise . Previously, this statue stood in front of the National Assembly , now Soweto Square."
