In 1663 the Dutch took the local Portuguese fort and it was by then that the need of a cemetery arised. It is unknown when exactly the cemetery started but the year of 1724 is painted on a pillar of the cemetery's gate. However the oldest grave found in there these days is dated from 1784. In 1795 the English conquered Kochi and there wasn't much need for a Dutch cemetery anymore.
Unfortunately the cemetery is not open to the public, or at least it's not usually open. It's possible to take a look over the wall though.
