[ENG] The Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology was established in 1951 on the initiative of a group of psychiatrists and neurobiologists, with the prominent neurophysiologist Jerzy Konorski at the helm. Its aim was to create a Polish center for scientific and clinical research in the field of psychiatric and neurological disorders. For 23 years, the Institute operated in a pavilion at the State Hospital for Nervous and Mentally Ill in Pruszków. In 1973, it was relocated to Warsaw (Sobieskiego street), where scientific research was expanded to include genetics, psychopharmacology, and neurochemistry. The Institute, as a WHO Collaborating Center, also functions as a hospital, with departments for psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, and clinics for mental health, neurology, neurosurgery, genetics, and addiction treatment.
