The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in Washington, D.C., was dedicated on November 13, 1982. The 246-foot long memorial consists of two black granite walls containing the names of 58,249 men and women who died during the course of the Vietnam War. In 1984, The Three Soldiers bronze statue was added to the memorial grounds. The statue was designed to appear as if the soliders are looking from a distance at the names on the wall in tribute to their fallen comrades.
