"El panel informativo nos habla un poco de la fuente, y nos dice así:
Esta fuente para el servicio público fue instalada a finales del XIX. Se encuentra junto a las escaleras de acceso a la calle Abadía en la plazoleta de la Església Vella. Ésta es una construcción posiblemente del tiempo de la conquista de Jaime I. Tiene una posición privilegiada, ya que se sitúa a la espalda de la iglesia parroquial, construida a finales del siglo XVI, junto a la zona de acceso al barrio medieval y en la calle que permitía la comunicación entre la entrada sur de la población, el Raval y el camino hacia Alcoy.

Según la concesión del servicio de agua potable de Jijona firmada por el Pleno el 17 de marzo de 1893 el arrendatario debía proyectar e instalar:
8 fuentes públicas de hierro con cierres automático.
1 fuente monumental que debía instalarse en la plaza de Alfonso XIII.
4 bebederos en las afueras de la ciudad".
