En el patio interior del Palacio Vecchio se pueden ver unas columnas, unas cilindricas y otras octogonales, bellamente decoradas.
Cosimo I de’ Medici encargó a los artistas Lorenzo Marignolli y Santi Buglioni que cubrieran las columnas de estuco dorado con motivos vegetales, putti y otras figuraciones. Todo ello para boda entre Francesco de’ Medici y Giovanna de Austria en el año 1565.
