Kingscote is a landmark of the Gothic Revival style in American architecture. A cast iron hitching post with an eagle's head stands beside the circular drive, southwest of this National Historic Landmark house.
The black post's design is somewhat ornamental with curvilinear elements in relief along most of the shaft. Topping the piece is an eagle head, angled upward with its beak slightly agape. The hitching post's height is approximately 3.5 feet.
This "summer cottage" is one of 11 historic properties of The Preservation Society of Newport County and is open for tours from 10:00AM to 5:00PM seasonally. Parking area entrance is on the north side of Bowery Street, west of Bellevue Avenue.
