This monument, a full scale replica of Englands Stonehenge, was dedicated in 1918 to the 17 Klickitat County, WA soldiers who lost their lives in WWI. It was the 1st WWI Monument built in the US. It was built by the wealthy entrepenuer, Sam Hill.

At the time it was mistakenly believed that the original Stonehenge was a place of human sacrifice and Hill chose to replicate it for the memorial as a statement that mankind is still being sacrificed.

The monument sits high on the bluffs of the Columbia River Gorge and has a commanding view. It can be seen from Highway 14, the highway that winds along the Columbia River's Washington side.
