The construction of the town hall began in 1858 and lasted four years. Then another 21 years passed before the magnificent clock tower was added to the building in 1884. After the fire in 1977, the makers of the original clock, Gillett and Bland, now Gillett and Johnston, made a new clock, electronically operated.
Each of the four clock faces has a nice frame and the Roman numerals are surrounded by 2 golden circles while the middle of the clock face has a fancy design. The numerals and hands are black on a white background.
