El 27 de enero de 1993 fueron encontrados los cadáveres de Miriam García, Desirée Hernández y Antonia Gómez, conocidas como las niñas de Alcàsser. Dos apicultores las encontraron en una fosa en el barranco de La Romana, en el municipio de Tous, Valencia.
El 13 de noviembre de 1992, Miriam García, Desirée Hernández y Antonia Gómez salieron de visitar a su amiga Esther con la intención de ir a la discoteca Coolor, a las afueras de Picassent, Valencia, donde se celebraba una fiesta de su instituto. Nunca llegaron y su desaparición conmocionó a todo un país..
Tras 75 días desaparecidas, dos apicultores vieron un brazo medio desenterrado en el barranco de La Romana. Un equipo de la Guardia Civil se trasladó al lugar de los hechos y al excavar se encontraron otros dos cuerpos. Los cadáveres de las niñas estaban envueltos en una alfombra grande y apilados en una fosa de grandes dimensiones.
Además de los cuerpos, en los alrededores de la fosa se encontraron otros objetos como un cartucho sin percutir y un videojuego. Pero la pista más importante fueron unos trozos de papel que, tras su reconstrucción, resultó ser un volante del Hospital La Fe de Valencia a nombre de Enrique Anglés, hermano de uno de los acusados. Esta pista fue clave para la identificación de los sospechosos.
La misma tarde del 27 de enero, la Guardia Civil interrogó a uno de ellos, Miguel Ricart, quien posteriormente hizo una declaración voluntaria confesando que él y su amigo Antonio Anglés habían secuestrado a las niñas cuando hacían autostop, llevándolas a una caseta abandonada en La Romana, donde las violaron.

But the most important clue were some pieces of paper that, after its reconstruction, turned out to be a flyer from the La Fe Hospital in Valencia in the name of Enrique Anglés, brother of one of the defendants. This clue was key to the identification of the suspects.
On the same afternoon of January 27, the Civil Guard questioned one of them, Miguel Ricart, who later made a voluntary statement confessing that he and his friend Antonio Anglés had kidnapped the girls when they were hitchhiking, taking them to an abandoned booth in La Romana, where they were raped.
