Campiello dei Calegheri, ubicado en el distrito de San Marco cerca del teatro Fenice, se encuentra en una posición estratégica desde la que se pueden seguir tres direcciones diferentes. En el centro hay un bordillo de pozo cilíndrico en piedra de Istria grabado con dos escudos de armas. Debe su nombre a la presencia, en la época de la República de Venecia, de artesanos que se dedicaban a la fabricación de calzado, los "Calegheri".
Los Calegheri (que fabricaban zapatos y botas) y los "Zavateri" (que fabricaban pantuflas), eran artesanos muy solicitados en la ciudad, se dividían en dos gremios distintos según fueran italianos o alemanes. Los Calegheri tenían la obligación de hacer el calzado solo con cuero nuevo, mientras que los Zavateri tenían que usar solo cuero de segunda mano. El Magistrato alle Beccarie fue el proveedor oficial de la materia prima.

Campiello dei Calegheri, located in the San Marco district near the Fenice theater, is in a strategic position from which you can follow three different directions. In the center is a cylindrical well curb in Istrian stone engraved with two coats of arms. It owes its name to the presence, at the time of the Republic of Venice, of artisans who were dedicated to the manufacture of footwear, the "Calegheri".
The Calegheri (who made shoes and boots) and the "Zavateri" (who made slippers), were artisans in great demand in the city, they were divided into two different guilds depending on whether they were Italian or German. The Calegheri were required to make footwear only from new leather, while the Zavateri had to use only second-hand leather. The Magistrato alle Beccarie was the official supplier of the raw material.
