EN: "La Farola" is the lighthouse work of the engineer Pery y Guzmán.
Its construction was completed in 1817 and was then located at the entrance of the Port of Malaga. It rises 38 meters above the sea and its light theoretically reaches 25 miles, with 3+1 flashes every 20 seconds.
The earthquake that occurred in the city in 1898 left the mechanisms of the lighthouse inoperative, which were reformed in 1913.
During the Civil War, on August 28, 1936, La Farola was extinguished by order of the Navy Command, since its silhouette served as a reference to naval artillery and the aviation of the rebel army.
The Central Committee of the Republican Fleet ordered that it be painted earth-colored, with dark and light spots as camouflage. Despite this, it suffered serious damage, so it had to be rebuilt in 1939 with the way in which it is known today painted from Olanco.
The Lighthouse of Malaga, popularly known as "La Farola" is next to La Farola del Mar of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the only lighthouses in Spain with a feminine name."
