This plaque commemorates the creation of Albuquerque in 1706 by Spanish officials and settlers under the direction of Governor and Captain General Don Francisco Cuervo Y. Valdez. It is situated adjacent to the "Confederate Soldiers" memorial on the eastern side of the Old Town gazebo. The former town was renamed to honor the 10th Duke of Albuquerque and Spanish Viceroy, Don Francisco Fernandez De La Cueva Enriquez.
