The sign reads: "Journey - The two to three month journey from the coast of West Africa across the Atlantic Ocean, to the Caribbean is known as the Middle Passage. Human cargo was stripped naked, chained and stuffed into ships called "Slavers". Under license these ships were never to exceed 350 slaves, but it was not uncommon for near 800 African men, women and children to be stowed below deck. The captured were subjected to lying in their urine, faeces and vomit. Malnutrition and communicable diseases, such as dysentery, cholera ans small pox, often led to death. The cargo were destined for disembarkation in the slave markets of Jamaica and Bermuda in the Caribbean. The experiences of this leg of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade were some of the worst of the human History."

The museum is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday through Thursday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. The museum is closed on Monday and on national holidays.
