Al Arish is one of the villages which was gradually abandoned in the early 70's. These communities were once the main pilar of Qatari economy, when pearl collecting was paramount for the emirate. Then oil came and everything changed. Pearl picking is now something from the past as it's all related with that bygone era.

The place is free to visit an quiet atmospheric although not so big. The former mosque - or its minaret - is specially interesting.

Access is not easy, there is not a road, but some vague trails in the rocky desert. It's about 2 km from the asphalt road.
Reason for Abandonment: Economic

Date Abandoned: 01/01/1972
