"On 30 April, Her Majesty the Queen abdicated as Queen and handed over the monarchy to her son. King Willem-Alexander was sworn in that same day and inaugurated in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. A change of generations after a kingship that spanned thirty-three years. This Annual Review of the Royal House gives an impression of the activities of His Majesty the King, Queen Máxima, Princess Beatrix and other members of the Royal House in 2013. It was a special year, with an abdication, an investiture, a visit from the new Royal Couple to all provinces of the Netherlands, a trip to all islands in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and a series of introductory visits to European countries and neighboring countries of our Kingdom in Latin America. It was also a year of intense personal grief for the Royal Family. Prince Friso passed away on 12 August. Family, friends and colleagues commemorated him during a gathering on 2 November in the Oude Kerk in Delft."
