The city center of Assen is a lovely area, with a nice park, old buildings and restaurants. A nice place for a leisurly stroll.
About the courthouse, according to Wikipedia:
"
Until 2013, the Court of Assen was one of the nineteen courts in the Netherlands. As of 1 January 2013, the court has been merged into the District Court of the Northern Netherlands. The court eventually had two branches, the main branch in Assen at Brinkstraat 4 and the old subdistrict court in Emmen at Hoofdstraat 6.
The district of the court of Assen consisted of four, later three cantons: the canton of Assen, the canton of Hoogeveen, the canton of Emmen and the canton of Meppel. The last president of the Assen District Court was P.J. Dunkirk."
