EN: The former iron ore mine of Herznach is located at the western edge of the village.

The idea to mine iron in Herznach arose after World War I, when productive deposits were discovered (smaller mines in the area are attested since the early 13th century and were in operation until the early 19th century).

In 1920, a first experimental adit was built and the mountain was geologically explored. In 1937, the mine was opened.

During the 2nd World War, ore mining experienced its heyday. In 1941, 211,783 tons of ore were mined. The company employed 139 people.

After a weak period immediately after the war, there was a second boom in the 1950s, but cheaper and better ore on the world market forced the company to cease operations in 1967. In total, about 1.7 million tons of ore were mined during the thirty years.

In 2004, an association was founded with the aim of making the regional history of mining better known. Today there is a museum in the gallery, which is open from April to October on the first Sunday of each month. Then the gallery railroad is also in operation. In the former silo about 200 meters from the entrance to the gallery there is now a bed and breakfast.

Die Idee in Herznach Eisen abzubauen entstand nach dem 1. Weltkrieg, als ergiebige Vorkommen entdeckt wurden (kleinere Gruben in der Gegend sind seit dem frühen 13. Jahrhundert bezeugt und waren bis im frühen 19. Jahrhundert in Betrieb).

1920 wurde ein erster Versuchsstollen angelegt und der Berg geologisch untersucht. 1937 wurde das Bergwerk eröffnet.

Während des 2. Weltkriegs erlebte der Erzabbau seine Blütezeit. 1941 wurden 211 783 Tonnen Erz gefördert. Das Unternehmen beschäftigte 139 Mitarbeiter.

Nach einer schwachen Phase direkt nach dem Krieg gab es in den 1950ern noch einen zweiten Aufschwung, aber billigeres und besseres Erz auf dem Weltmarkt zwang die Firma 1967 den Betrieb einzustellen. Insgesamt wurden in den dreissig Jahren rund 1.7 Millionen Tonnen Erz gefördert.

2004 wurde ein Verein gegründet, der das Ziel hatte die regionale Geschichte des Bergbaus besser bekannt zu machen. Heute befindet sich ein Museum im Stollen, das von April bis Oktober jeweils am ersten Sonntag im Monat geöffnet hat. Dann ist auch die Stollenbahn in Betrieb. Im ehemaligen Silo etwa 200 Meter vor dem Stolleneingang befindet sich heute ein Bed and Breakfast.
