The former Wayslian church is built in the Neo-Gothic style and was designed by the architect Thomas Mullet Ellis. It was built in the years 1881 - 1883 and was the first building in Malta to make use of electricity.

It was consecrated for religious worship on 18 March 1883 and functioned as a Wesleyan Church until around the 1970s. The Maltese government took over the building in 1975 where it was transformed into a cultural center and concert hall, called The Robert Samut Hall, where you can hear the Maltese Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra is recognized as Malta’s foremost musical institution and in September 1997 it was officially named as Malta's national orchestra.
