Malta was part of the British Empire (1800-1964) and the English influence can be seen in many places on the island.
The former Wayslian church is built in the Neo-Gothic style and was designed by the architect Thomas Mullet Ellis. It was built in the years 1881 - 1883 and was the first building in Malta to make use of electricity.
It was consecrated for religious worship on 18 March 1883 and functioned as a Wesleyan Church until around the 1970s. The Maltese government took over the building in 1975 where it was transformed into a cultural center and concert hall where you can hear the Maltese Philharmonic Orchestra.
The formerly Wesleyan Church is now called The Robert Samut Hall.
