NL Naast de Grote Kerk in Harderwijk vond ik een mooi poortje. Op de fronton staat een mooie reliëf-voorstelling, en de inscriptie ‘anno 1651’. Het is duidelijk te zien dat het hier het Weeshuispoortje betreft.

Het Burgerweeshuis werd gesticht in 1554. De eerste locatie was gelegen op de hoek van de Donkerstraat/Markt. Vanaf 1650 tot was het weeshuis gehuisvest in Kerkplein 2, de Wheme. Het poortje maakte hier deel van uit. De ingang wordt bekroond door een fronton, waarin de weesmoeder met een sleutel in haar hand, een man met een stok en een aantal weeskinderen zijn afgebeeld.

ENG Next to the Grote Kerk in Harderwijk I found a nice gate. On the pediment is a beautiful relief scene, and the inscription 'anno 1651'. It is clearly visible that this is the Orphanage Gate.

The Burgerweeshuis was founded in 1554. The first location was located on the corner of Donkerstraat/Markt. From 1650 until the orphanage was housed in Kerkplein 2, de Wheme. The gate was part of this. The entrance is topped by a pediment, in which the orphan mother with a key in her hand, a man with a stick and a number of orphans are depicted.
