"Location and access
The Selarón Staircase, also known as the Staircase of the Convent of Santa Teresa (Escadaria do Convento de Santa Teresa in Portuguese), is located between the neighborhoods (bairro) Santa Teresa and Lapa of the city of Rio de Janeiro. An extension of Teotônio Regadas street, the staircase forms part of Manoel Carneiro street, and joins Joaquim Silva street at the Santa Teresa climb.

The Selarón staircase is 125 meters long and has 215 steps.

History
Tourist attraction of the city, the staircase has the distinction of being decorated, over its entire length, with more than 2,000 earthenware tiles from 120 different countries. The staircase is the work of the Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón (1947-2013), a resident of the neighborhood who arrived in Brazil in 1983, who decorated several public places in Santa Teresa and Lapa. It was made for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The poet Jean-Luc Pouliquen evoked it in his book In Rio de Janeiro with Gaston Bachelard."

L'escalier Selarón, également connu sous le nom d'escalier du couvent de Santa Teresa (Escadaria do Convento de Santa Teresa en portugais), est situé entre les quartiers (bairro) Santa Teresa et Lapa de la ville de Rio de Janeiro. Prolongement de la rue Teotônio Regadas, l'escalier constitue une partie de la rue Manoel Carneiro, et rejoint la rue Joaquim Silva à la montée Santa Teresa.

L'escalier Selarón fait 125 mètres de longueur et comporte 215 marches.

Historique
Attraction touristique de la ville, l'escalier a la particularité d'être orné, sur toute sa longueur, de plus de 2 000 carreaux de faïence venant de 120 pays différents. L'escalier est une œuvre de l'artiste d'origine chilienne Jorge Selarón (1947-2013), résident du quartier et arrivé au Brésil en 1983, qui a décoré plusieurs lieux publics de Santa Teresa et de Lapa. Elle a été réalisée à l'occasion de la coupe du monde de football de 1994.
