Manzini (formerly known as Bremersdorp) is a large city in Eswatini and is also the capital of Eswatini's Manzini Region. It is the country's largest urban center.
Since its inception in the 1920s, the Agricultural and Mechanical Show (name later changed to the Swaziland International Trade Fair) has been the country's largest and most reported annual event.
In 1915 the first hotel, since Bremersdorp was rebuilt after the Anglo-Boer War, was opened on the banks of the Mzimene River. Named Riverside Hotel, it remained open until 1997, changing its name over the years to Manzini Arms Hotel and in the 1990s to Velebantfu Hotel. The buildings were intact after several years of closure but were razed in 2008 by private developers. A shopping center opened on the site in 2011.
Opened in the 1970s, Matsapha International Airport, Swaziland's only commercial airport, is 10 km away. Since 2014, Matsapha has closed and King Mswati III International Airport, 56.9 km to the east, is the new international airport. Manzini is the nearest urban center. The Agricultural Bank of China is one of the main backers of the new international airport.
Manzini was declared a town in 1994, when its administrative apparatus, the Manzini Town Council, became the Manzini City Council.
