The Old Town Bridge is a wooden bridge from 1861 that crosses the Nidelva. The Old Town Bridge was built where from 1683 there was an even older bridge.
The bridge connects the two districts of Midtbyen and Bakklandet. It consists of six spans and a total length of 82 metres. On the west side, it has two bridge flaps that can be opened when ships have to sail through. The lifting device is attached to two romantically designed portals called the "portal of happiness".
In 1967, the bridge was expanded and made wider for traffic reasons, but has been closed to cars again. So now there is only access for bicycles and pedestrians.
