The Old Town Bridge is a wooden bridge from 1861 which crosses the Nidelva. It connects the two districts Midtbyen and Bakklandet. It consists of six spans and a total length of 82 metres. The bridge had two bridge flaps on the west side that could be opened. This allowed ships to sail through. The lifting device was attached to two romantically designed portals called the "portal of happiness". In 1967, for traffic reasons, the bridge was widened and could no longer be opened. However, the bridge has later been closed to cars.
The Old Town Bridge was built where from 1683 there was an even older bridge.
