“De Bunckman” is de uitbeelding van de Bunckmansage, een volksverhaal dat zich afspeelt in de omgeving van Voorthuizen. Daar zou in vroeger tijden een reus hebben geleefd, Bunckman genaamd, die reizigers, nadat hij hen had geplunderd, om het leven bracht. De overval op een rondreizend violist zou zijn laatste overval zijn. Voordat hij zou sterven, wilde de violist nog eenmaal op zijn viool spelen. Bunckman stond hem dit toe. Dit werd hem noodlottig. De violist kon door het spelen van hoge tonen voorwerpen uit elkaar laten spatten. Na de laatste hoge toon viel Bunckman dood neer. Op de voorzijde van het voetstuk is een grote plaquette aangebracht met daarop de inhoud van de Bunckmansage.

Het beeld is gemaakt in 1981 en staat in het centrale plein van Voorthuizen, bij de Kerkstraat. Het is gemaakt van brons en door de kunsternares Marijke Ravenswaaij-Deege.

“De Bunckman” is the depiction of the Bunckmansage, a folktale that takes place in the vicinity of Voorthuizen. A giant named Bunckman is said to have lived there in ancient times, who killed travellers, after he had plundered them. The robbery of a traveling violinist would be his last robbery. Before he died, the violinist wanted to play his violin one more time. Bunckman allowed him this. This became fatal for him. The violinist could make objects shatter by playing high tones. After the last high note, Bunckman fell dead. On the front of the pedestal is a large plaque with the content of the Bunckmansage.

The statue was made in 1981 and is located in the central square of Voorthuizen, near the Kerkstraat. It is made of bronze and by the artist Marijke Ravenswaaij-Deege.
